Dental implants are an excellent way to restore the appearance of one’s teeth. And there are several types of dental implants available. These types of implants are designed to accommodate the specific needs of a client. Below are the two major types of dental implants. Also listed are three alternative types of dental implants in Scottsdale AZ that are currently available.
Major Dental Implant Types
1) Endosteal Implants
With Endosteal dental implants, the implants are placed in the jawbone. These implants are usually made of of titanium and shaped like small screws. Endosteal Implants are the most common types of implants.
2). Subperiosteal Implants
Subperiosteal Implants are placed under the gum but on, or above, the jawbone. Subperiosteal Implants are used for client who do not have a healthy enough natural jawbone to support Endosteal Implants. Also, Subperiosteal Implants are preferred by clients who do not want to undergo a bone augmentation procedure.
Alternative Dental Implant Types
1). Immediate Load Dental Implants
Immediate Load Dental Implants are also known as same day implants or Teeth in a Day®. With this procedure, the client can receive a temporary tooth during the same appointment as the dental implant placement.
2). Mini dental implants (MDIs)
Mini dental implants (MDIs) are also known as small or narrow diameter implants. With this procedure, toothpick-sized implants are used which are narrower than most commonly used dental implants. MDIs use a less invasive technique and are used to stabilize a lower denture.
3). All-on-4®
All-on-4 is an alternative dental implant procedure that substitutes placing a full arch of top or bottom set of replacement teeth. With this procedure, four dental implants are placed in an available bone. After the procedure, the client will follow a modified diet to give the tissue time to heal and allow the implants to bond with the natural bone. After six months, the client will receive permanent replacement teeth and can resume a normal diet.
