Veneers are some of the best options in today’s smile makeovers. Their longevity and appearance make them a top contender among all cosmetic dental options. But did you know that caring for your teeth after veneers have been installed is slightly different?

In cases of things like dental fillings or the common dental crown, there is no need to change your current methods in brushing and keeping your mouth clean. Veneers however, do require a little bit of awareness and change to cleaning habits. Don’t panic though, it’s not that bad!

A veneer is essentially a cap that covers the majority of the visible tooth. At times though, the presence of the veneer can create a a small space between the gum and the base of the veneer. This is because your dentist can only place the veneer at this gum line instead of mashed into it. The resulting space is very small and not noticeable in most aspects.

Unfortunately, this space can eventually harbor significant plaque and bacteria if not maintained. As a veneer-wearer, you still must brush, rinse, and floss regularly. This will never change. How you go about this though does require giving some specific attention to this area. Your leading cosmetic dentist Phoenix area, Dr. B suggests putting special attention on flossing and brushing this area.

Floss here with attention to detail. This is a convenient location for food to get stuck and even more so since getting your veneers. Be sure to pull the floss sideways so as to completely reach all the way to the middle point of the tooth from each side. This will remove all hidden debris in the area. Also, while brushing, Dr. B recommends focusing for just a moment more on these areas with the brush specifically directed at this space. There’s not much to it but it is important to know of these factors when getting veneers.

As always, your premier dentist Scottsdale and Phoenix areas, Dr. B is here when you need. Whether it’s a question on teeth whitening or advice on dental root canals, the doctor is always in at Studio B Smiles. It has been a pleasure helping you. Call us today at 480-860-0092!
